About Us

Founded in 2005, Maui Brewing Company is Hawaii’s largest independent craft brewery, with a focus on producing high-quality, innovative craft beverages for every occasion.

Maui Brewing Co. began as a seven-barrel brewpub producing 320 barrels of beer in Kahana, Maui established in 2005. Though brewing is no longer done at this location, the original brewhouse is still on display at the MBC Kahana brewpub. The 20-barrel production brewery in Kahana began construction in the Fall of 2006, and launched its flagship brews Big Swell IPA, Bikini Blonde Lager, and CoCoNut PorTeR (renamed Coconut Hiwa Porter in 2016) in aluminum cans in March 2007.

Maui Brewing Co. takes pride in innovation, being the first brewery to produce a coconut beer, a pineapple beer, and a POG (passion fruit, orange, guava) beer.

By 2014, Maui Brewing Co. had outgrown and therefore sold the 20-barrel production facility, and a newly constructed, grid-independent Kihei facility opened. 1.2MW array of solar panels cover MBC’s roof, awning, and carports, along with biodiesel generators onsite fueled by locally produced biodiesel for makeup and backup power as needed, solar thermal systems to reduce propane gas consumption for water heating needs, and a CO2 recapturing system. In 2022, Maui Brewing Co. expanded production by partnering with a mainland brewery to produce its craft beverages for the mainland market. This partnership provides a steady and fresh supply of MBC and Maui Hard Seltzer beverages at competitive prices while reducing the company’s carbon footprint.

Kupu Spirits debuted in 2019 with the launch of a ready-to-drink craft canned cocktail collection including Whiskey Ginger, Whiskey Cola, and Gin & Tonic varieties. The craft cocktails blend Kupu Spirits Whiskey and Gin with Maui Brewing Company’s Island Sodas, which are created in-house using all-natural ingredients like cane sugar, local island honey, and Hawaii-grown ginger. The brand has expanded to include bottled spirits, including Gin, White Whiskey, Whiskey, and Island Amaro.

In 2020, Maui Brewing launched Maui Hard Seltzer, a line of spiked sparkling waters with a hint of natural tropical flavor.
